Anders delivered the most relaxing safety briefing I’ve ever heard. These subs have a safety feature in the event the pilot is incapacitated. If no controls are given in 10 minutes, the sub automatically drops its ballast plates and the sub pops to the surface. Anders, in classic Scandinavian form, cheerily described this whole scenario (i.e., what happens in the event of his death on the job) in ten words: “And, if nothing happens in ten minutes, you go up.”
