You guessed it! Brazil nuts! They grow in a hard shelled pod: 6-8 nuts within a pod. The nuts are typically not roasted, like in North America. They taste more like coconut. It’s amazing that everyone slinging a machete or knife in the marketplace had all their fingers.
Açaí is a big, big deal here. Unlike our açaí berries, these are mostly pit. The juice is eaten by spoon to accompany fried fish and pretty much anything else, or it is sweetened for drinking.
