Our excursion was a 7-hour 4WD trip to Volunteer Point where three types of penguins have rookeries. After about an hour on gravel roads, we did another hour of rough driving through peat bogs. Watching the soil compress about 9” under the vehicles” wheels, only to spring right back, was really weird. Bruises on my shoulder and spine are testament to the bumpy ride!
